In plain terms

A fibreglass flat roof

GRP is a glass-fibre laminate over a sound deck. It is one piece, with no laps in the middle to open, which is why it suits many house extensions and dormers. The deck has to be dry, rigid and sloped. Resin on damp or moving boards cracks.

We form the falls so water leaves the roof, laminate the trims and the upstands with the field of the roof, and finish with a topcoat that can be walked on for maintenance. The topcoat is usually grey. On a house, the edge and the flashing matter more than the colour of a roof you barely see from the street.

We do this from Hessle, across Hull, Beverley, Anlaby and Anlaby Common, Willerby, Woodmansey and the villages in between. Call 01482 627895 or use the form further down. We look at the roof before we price it. A written quote is available if you want one, and the work we agree is guaranteed for at least 12 months, and often for longer depending on the job.

The job

What you might be seeing

  • A flat roof that has been re-felted more than once
  • Trapped moisture in an old deck
  • Edges that drip because the trim was an afterthought
  • A roof that ponds because there is no fall

What we do

  • Replace or dry the deck before any resin goes down
  • Form falls so water leaves the roof
  • Laminate the roof, the trims and the upstands as one piece
  • Finish with a topcoat that can be walked on for maintenance

On the board

Materials

GRP laminate and pre-formed edge trims. The deck is exterior-grade boarding, fixed so it cannot move and crack the laminate.

Questions we get

Straight answers about GRP fibreglass for houses in Hessle, Hull, Beverley and the villages around them.

What is a GRP roof?

GRP means glass-reinforced plastic: a fibreglass skin laid over boarding. It is a single membrane, so there are no joints in the middle of the roof to open. It is for flat roofs, extensions and dormers, not a substitute for tiles on a pitched roof.

Can a GRP roof be laid in cold weather?

Only when the day is warm enough and the deck is dry. If it is not, we wait. A laminate laid onto damp boards fails, and we would rather pause than do that.

Why does my flat roof hold water?

There is not enough fall to the outlet. Standing water then finds any weak edge. We form falls as part of the job, rather than leaving a puddle in the middle of the extension.

Felt or GRP on a house extension?

If the deck is sound, dry and rigid, GRP is often a good fit. If the boards are soft or wet, they are replaced first, and felt may still be the better roof. The choice is made on site, not from a photograph.

Will a fibreglass roof match the house?

The topcoat is usually grey. From the street a flat roof is mostly the edge trim and the flashing against the wall. Those details are what we get right. The colour of the flat field is secondary.

Where do you fit GRP roofs?

Extensions, dormers and other flat roofs on houses in Hessle, Hull, Beverley, Anlaby and Anlaby Common, Willerby and Woodmansey.
